Rates & getting started
What it costs and what happens first
Uncertainty is its own stressor, so none of this is behind a phone call.
Rates
Private pay. No insurance billing.
Payment is due at the time of service. Card, HSA and FSA all work. You will receive a written Good Faith Estimate of the total cost before your first appointment, as the No Surprises Act requires.
Superbills. I will send you a monthly superbill you can submit to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement. Many plans in this area reimburse a meaningful share once the out-of-network deductible is met. I will help you check your specific benefits before you commit to anything, so you know the real number rather than a guess. Note that submitting a superbill does put a diagnosis in front of your insurer — see clearances and privacy for why that might matter to you.
Cancellations. Twenty-four hours’ notice, or the session is charged in full. I hold the hour for you and I cannot fill it same-day. Genuine emergencies are genuine emergencies.
Getting started
Four steps, and the first one takes fifteen minutes.
Book the free consultation
Fifteen minutes. You tell me roughly what is going on; I tell you whether CPT is the right tool and what the work would look like. No paperwork, no charge, no obligation. If I am not the right fit I will say so and try to point you somewhere better.
Paperwork in the client portal
Consent forms, practice policies and the Good Faith Estimate, all signed electronically before we meet, so the first appointment is clinical rather than administrative. Ten minutes.
First appointment
Seventy-five to ninety minutes. History, what happened, what it has cost you, and a specific plan with a number of sessions attached. You leave knowing what we are doing.
The work
Weekly sessions, written homework between them, and a defined endpoint. Same time each week wherever possible — the protocol works better with rhythm.
Booking
[SimplePractice booking widget goes here.] In the meantime: call or text (571) 206-0096 or email hello@beyondmountainspsych.com with your name and a good time to reach you. Please don’t include health details in an email — email isn’t secure, and we can cover all of that in the consult.
Practical questions
The things people ask before they book
What do I need for a video session?
A private room, a device with a camera, and a decent connection. Sessions run through a HIPAA-compliant platform — you click a link, no software to install. Headphones help more than people expect, both for sound and for privacy.
Do I have to be in Virginia?
Yes, physically, at the time of each session. I hold a Virginia licence and licensure follows where you are sitting, not where you live on paper. I will ask you to confirm at the start of each appointment. If you travel often, tell me in the consult and we will plan around it.
How quickly can I get in?
Usually within a week or two for the consultation, and the first appointment shortly after. If that changes I will say so rather than leave you waiting.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with the limits every clinician has: imminent risk to you or someone else, suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, and a court order. I will walk you through exactly where those lines are in the first session, and they will be in your consent paperwork in writing.
What if I need someone between sessions?
I am not an emergency service and I am not available around the clock. Your consent paperwork will name a covering clinician and the crisis pathway. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 — veterans press 1 — or 911 if you are in immediate danger.
Fifteen minutes, no charge, no commitment.
We talk about what brought you here and whether this is the right fit. If it isn’t, I will tell you and point you somewhere better.
