Website privacy notice
This covers the website only. Your clinical privacy rights are covered by the Notice of Privacy Practices in your client paperwork.
What this site collects
Very little, and nothing that identifies you by name. The one exception to the no-cookies rule is described under Advertising measurement below. The booking buttons open SimplePractice’s secure appointment-request form on top of the page; that form is run by SimplePractice, a HIPAA-covered system with which the practice has a business associate agreement, and anything you enter in it goes to the practice through SimplePractice, not to this website. Loading it does not identify you to this site. It uses Plausible, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count page views and to see which parts of the site get used, such as clicks on the booking buttons, which group descriptions are opened, and which questions are expanded. Plausible does not use cookies, does not store IP addresses, does not build profiles, and does not share data with advertisers or anyone else; it records only which pages were viewed, which element was clicked, and the general source of the visit (for example, a search engine). No individual visitor can be identified from it, and visiting this site does not create a record with the practice.
The web host records standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability. Those logs are not used to identify visitors and are not combined with anything else.
Advertising measurement
This site carries the Google Ads conversion tag. Its only job is to tell Google Ads whether a visit that started from one of the practice’s ads went on to click a booking, call or message button, so that advertising money is not wasted. It records the click, the page and the time; it does not receive anything you type, and it is not connected to the booking system or to any clinical record. Google sets cookies for this purpose and may link the visit to a Google account you are signed into. If you would rather it did not, a content blocker or your browser’s tracking protection will stop it, and the site works exactly the same.
Why there is otherwise no tracking of individuals
Federal guidance treats information collected by tracking technologies on health-related web pages, combined with something like an IP address, as protected health information. Beyond the advertising tag described above, this site uses no tools that can identify a visitor: no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no session recording. Aggregate, anonymous counts are the only measurement kept, and they are used to make the site clearer and easier to use.
Booking and the client portal
Booking and all clinical communication run through a separate HIPAA-compliant practice management system under a business associate agreement. Anything you enter there is governed by that system’s protections and by the Notice of Privacy Practices you receive as a client, not by this page.
Email and text
Ordinary email and SMS are not secure. Please use them only to arrange a time or ask a logistical question, and keep health details out of them. Anything clinical belongs in the portal or in session.
Your clinical records
Your rights over your health information, which include access, amendment, an accounting of disclosures and restrictions on use, are set out in the Notice of Privacy Practices provided at intake. Contact the practice directly to exercise any of them.

You don’t have to have it figured out to start.
Not sure where to start? Book a free 15-minute consultation with Dr. Thaxter: a short, live call over telehealth about what is going on and whether this is the right place, with no paperwork and no charge. When you are ready, the same button lets you book an intake for individual therapy or enroll in a group. Everything runs through the secure client portal, and the first step takes about two minutes. If you would rather talk first, call (571) 206-0096 or send a message.
